Bali Lempuyang Temple
One of the Biggest Temples in East Bali, famously known as the Gate of Heaven.
Bali Lempuyang Temple is a sacred Hindu temple dedicated to worshiping Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa, manifesting as the god Icwara. Located atop Bisbis Hill in eastern Bali, it offers breathtaking views of the majestic Mount Agung. Known to tourists as the 'Gate of Heaven,' this temple holds significant cultural and spiritual importance. As one of the 'Sad Kahyangan Jagad,' or 'six sanctuaries of the universe,' it plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of the universe from its eastern Bali location, specifically in Tribuana village, Abang sub-district, Karangasem city.
Notes
- Driving from Kuta takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes to reach Lempuyang Temple. Google Maps can be used for navigation.
- Due to the immense popularity of the 'Gate of Heaven' photo spot, queues can be very long. It is highly recommended to arrive in the morning to minimize waiting times and get a quick turn for photos.
- The spectacular 'mirror effect' in photos at the Gate of Heaven is created by a dark-colored mirror placed beneath the camera, not a pool of water.
- Reaching Lempuyang Luhur Temple at the summit of Bisbis Hill requires excellent stamina, as it involves climbing approximately 1700 steps.
- To take photos at the 'Gate of Heaven' (Penataran Agung Lempuyang Temple), visitors do not need to climb the 1700 steps; access is easy via a short walk after a shuttle bus ride.
- From the main parking area, visitors must use a shuttle bus to reach Penataran Agung Lempuyang Temple due to the steep and winding road. The shuttle bus service incurs an additional cost.
