Tirta Gangga Water Palace
A serene and beautiful recreational garden in East Bali, named after 'Tirta' (blessed water) and 'Gangga' (the holy river in India).
Discover the enchanting Tirta Gangga Water Palace, a renowned tourist destination nestled in the eastern part of Bali. This beautiful recreational garden, established in 1948 by King Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem, blends unique Balinese and Chinese architectural styles. Its name, derived from 'Tirta' (blessed water) and 'Gangga' (the holy river in India), reflects the site's profound spiritual significance.
Spanning 1.2 hectares, the palace grounds are divided into three distinct complexes. The lowest level features two expansive lotus ponds and elegant fountains. The central complex boasts inviting swimming pools, while the highest level once housed the King's country home, now offering a restaurant and rentable bungalows. The entire garden is adorned with numerous small statues depicting characters from Hindu epics like the Maha Bharata and Ramayana, meticulously placed to enhance its aesthetic appeal.
Tirta Gangga is celebrated for its natural spring, revered by the local community as a source of holy water used in religious ceremonies. This sacred spring, believed to be 'Embukan' (a divine wellspring), supplies water for both the local population and purification rituals. Visitors can witness colorful processions and ceremonies on special religious occasions, where villagers gather to pray for safety and health, accompanied by chanting and the harmonious music of the 'Beleganjur' gamelan gong group.
A highlight for many tourists is the opportunity to marvel at the pond's vibrant koi fish, making it a highly 'Instagrammable' spot for stunning photographs. The palace's strategic location on the main road to Lempuyang and Amed makes it an ideal stop for those exploring East Bali. With its fantastic views, relatively cool climate, and rich cultural heritage, Tirta Gangga Water Palace offers a truly memorable and picturesque experience.
