Nestled majestically on the serene Lake Beratan, the Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is a captivating sanctuary dedicated to Ida Batari Dewi Ulun Danu, the goddess of the lake. Built in the 17th century on the edge of a vast crater, this iconic Balinese temple beautifully worships the main Hindu trinity—Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva—alongside Dewi Danu. Its dominant Meru (pagoda) shrines honor the lake goddess and the deities of Mount Batur and Mount Gunung Agung, Bali's largest volcano. The temple's unique position creates an illusion of floating on the lake's smooth, reflective surface, perfectly complemented by the picturesque Bedugul mountain range backdrop. This cool upland retreat has long been a favorite spot for sightseeing, recreation, and photography, often featured on postcards as a symbol of Bali's spiritual beauty. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is not only a crucial source of holy water for irrigation across central Bali but also a vibrant complex housing four other significant shrines: Lingga Petak, Penataran Pucak Mangu, Terate Bang, Dalem Purwa, and Beji Temple. Adding to its unique charm, a Buddhist Stupa stands within the temple grounds, symbolizing ancient religious harmony and tolerance. Archaeological findings suggest the site's history dates back to the megalithic era, making it one of the island's oldest and most revered sanctuaries.
